This presentation will cover emergent issues in employment law related to transgender employees. Recent case law filed by transgender employees and guidance by federal and state agencies—including the Iowa Civil Rights Commission, EEOC, and OSHA—will be discussed. Employers’ policies and procedures related to transgender employees will also be covered.
Learning objectives for this session include:
- Understanding the importance, including potential employer liability, of employer policies and procedures as they relate to transgender employees.
- Identifying where employment issues are likely to arise as it relates to transgender employees.
- Recognizing the national trend toward greater protection of this class of individuals.
Lindsay has been with the Ahlers law firm since 2013, and she is Ahlers’ Employment Law practice group leader. Lindsay practices primarily in the Employment & Labor Law and Litigation practice areas. Lindsay counsels private and public sector clients on various employment-related matters and defends clients in litigation before federal and state courts and agencies. Prior to joining the Ahlers firm, Lindsay served for three years as a judicial law clerk for the honorable Ronald E. Longstaff and the Honorable Celeste F. Bremer of the United States District Court, Southern District of Iowa.
